How do you sell your products in ChatGPT and Claude?

Updated

The short answer

Connect your catalog to the assistant through an app it can use, so it can find your products, quote them accurately and hand the shopper a checkout to confirm. Your pages also need to be readable by the assistant's search, so it recommends you in the first place.

Where each assistant stands today

As of October 2026, from each company's own announcements:

  • ChatGPT: OpenAI launched Instant Checkout in September 2025, and in March 2026 moved checkout to apps connected to ChatGPT, saying it would focus on search and product discovery.
  • Claude: shoppers add commerce connectors from Claude's connector directory; a connector searches the catalog in the chat and hands back a checkout link.
  • Google AI Mode and Gemini: a Buy button powered by the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), open to select US merchants who apply through Google Merchant Center. Gemini can also use connected tools.

Step 1: be found by the assistant's search

Assistants that answer shopping questions cite pages their own search step retrieves. A product that is blocked, missing from the index, or only rendered by JavaScript is not in the answer.

  • Let the live and search crawlers in: ChatGPT-User and OAI-SearchBot, Claude-User and Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, and Googlebot.
  • Publish a sitemap that lists every product page.
  • Get indexed by Google and Bing: ChatGPT search runs on OpenAI's own crawler, and practitioners report Bing's index counts too.

Step 2: be quoted accurately

An assistant quotes your price, stock and variants from data it can read, not from the picture of your page. If the price only appears after the page's script runs, most agents never see it.

  • Price, currency and availability in the HTML, on every product page.
  • A product identifier (SKU, GTIN or MPN), so the assistant matches the exact item.
  • Descriptions that say what the product is and who it suits, not one line of copy.

Step 3: give the assistant a way to check out

This is the step most stores are missing. An agent that wants to buy needs an interface it can use: an app connected to the assistant (an MCP connector, which is where ChatGPT moved checkout), a UCP profile at /.well-known/ucp, or a feed accepted by the assistant's merchant program. Without one, the best an assistant can do is send a link and hope.

Where Kifly fits

Kifly connects your Shopify or WooCommerce store, a product feed, or your store address, and publishes the catalog in the formats agents read: a UCP profile and MCP shopping tools, kept current as the standards change. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini can use Kifly's connector to find your products in the chat, quote your live price and stock, and create the checkout link the shopper confirms through Stripe or your own checkout page. Every order is credited to the assistant that sent it.

Questions we hear.

Can I still sell directly inside ChatGPT?

Yes, through an app connected to ChatGPT. In March 2026 OpenAI moved checkout from Instant Checkout to apps. A connector such as Kifly's finds your products in the chat and hands the shopper a checkout link to confirm.

Do I need to rebuild my store?

No. The work is in your catalog data and the interfaces agents read. Kifly connects to the store you already run, and your prices and listings stay yours.

How do I check where my store stands?

Run the free Agent Readiness Report on your store's address. It checks whether AI apps can reach you, whether your product data is readable, and whether an agent has a way to buy.
